Arrington Vineyards – Riesling
Arrington Vineyards is located about 25 minutes south of
Downtown Nashville, Tennessee. I’ve
intended to stop there on one of my many business trips to Nashville over the
last few years. Time finally allowed
that visit in April.
The drive to Arrington was beautiful. You’ll end up on this little country road,
almost too small to be two lanes.
Arrington itself is quaint and has picnic tables set
out. You’re encouraged to bring outside
food. There were numerous picnickers on
the grounds despite it being 3pm on a Thursday when I arrived. They do live music on the weekends.
The location and ambiance is perfect.
The wine, overall, could use some more age.
The Riesling was good – a nice dry Riesling made from grapes
imported from California.
Strike one for me. If
I’m going to a regional winery, I want to try regional grapes. If I want a California Riesling, I’m going to
go buy a California Riesling in the wine shop.
But honestly, it was a good wine. It had a nice fruit forward flavor but not
too much sugar. I’d drink it.
The wines that held estate grown grapes were also good. They were out of the price point for this
blog, but good. Their port style (the
only wine made completely from estate grown grapes) was exquisite. I also loved the Antebellum – made
predominately from estate grown grapes and aged first in French Oak then in
Tennessee whisky barrels. Fabulous.
If you’re heading through Nashville, this stop is worth the
time. Bring a picnic, then order a
picnic tasting (four wines in a little carrying container to take outside) and
ask them to fill it with regional wines.
Make sure you get the Antebellum!
