Domaine Vetriccie Corse White
I love Vermentino. I
also love Dragon Con. This has been a fabulous
weekend.
Dragon Con is the yearly, Labor Day weekend, gathering of
pop culture fans in Atlanta. It’s such a
big fan convention, it is a character in a books. (Check out Winter Born by Sherrilyn
Kenyon.) A whole lot of people
(estimated 75,000 of your closest friends) checking out stars, costumes, and panels
on everything from Star Wars to classic Science Fiction to Marvel, Dr. Who, The
X-Files, gaming, and more.
It’s an urban fantasy author’s dream. I spend three days listening to panels of
authors (discussing fun stuff like Social Media, historical accuracy in urban
fantasy, or song lists for novels). I
also eat great (thanks to White Oak and Rays in the City on Peachtree Street)
and have the opportunity to network with other writers and people in the
publishing industry.
Friday night, completely entranced with a new book (Dark by
Kat Kinney), I came home from the con and spent the next two hours devouring
the book with this bottle of wine. Simply
put, they were both amazing
You can check out my Facebook page, Anne Schlea, for a
review on the book.
The vermentino, however, was stellar. I really like vermentino. It’s probably my favorite white wine. This one has a lot of minerality to it,
probably thanks to the clay ground the grapes were grown in. There’s a little bit of citrus on the
nose. It isn’t sweet, but it isn’t at
all buttery like a Chardonnay (yuck), either.
Easy to drink, this wine would be beautiful with popcorn or
salty potato chips as an after-dinner snack.
It also does nicely with whitefish or a dinner salad. Sipping on the porch in the evening; also not
out of the question.
If you’re stuck in a white wine rut: Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay,
Sauvignon Blanc; try this one. I promise
you’ll probably like it. Not too light,
not too strong; this wine, Goldilocks, is just right.
