Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Some of us (me, I admit it) spend hours or
even days considering what the right wine is for Thanksgiving dinner. Do I want a heavy white or a lighter red to
go with the roasted turkey? An American,
Oregon Pinot Noir or an Italian Nebbiolo?
What wine will present exactly the right flavor profile to accompany the
dishes I have planned for dinner?
Today, I’m giving you an option for a pre-celebration
libation that all your guests are sure to love.
We’re all familiar with Mimosa’s. They’re a New Year’s Day staple and are
probably something you drank if you’ve ever been a bridesmaid. Half sparkling brut wine and half orange
juice, they’re fruity, fun, and bubbly.
For Thanksgiving, try making your Mimosa with apple
cider. The thicker cider will balance
nicely with the sparkling wine creating a drink with just the right
consistency. If you want to make the
drink with a little extra flare, first rim the champagne flute with sparkling
sprinkles. Or alternatively, sugar mixed
with cinnamon. Then fill your glass ¾
way with cider and top with the brut.
You can add a thin slice of apple for garnish if you like.
This drink will make a fabulous aperitif to your holiday
celebration, no matter what time of day or evening you’re celebrating.
